Recently, I received some interesting feedback on a post about a personal project I worked on. What I found fascinating was that, even though the project didn’t involve AI at all, many of those who saw the post assumed that artificial intelligence played a significant role in its creation. This confusion got me thinking about how prominent discussions around AI have become in the creative field and how people perceive the use of this technology. So, I want to talk a bit about the benefits and dangers that AI brings to photography and videography.
The first thing I noticed is how much AI can simplify creative processes. Photo and video editing becomes much faster, more precise, and, in some cases, more creative than I would have expected. For instance, removing backgrounds or adjusting colors no longer requires hours of manual work. These tools can completely transform the way we work, giving us more time to focus on the artistic side.
I recently tested a practical application of AI, and the results were intriguing. For example, I uploaded a photo I had created into ChatGPT and asked it to generate a brief I could use for text-to-image platforms. Here’s what it came up with:
“A visually striking commercial image featuring a Kozel beer advertisement. The scene includes a Kozel beer bottle standing upright on a rustic wooden crate, with visible condensation drops on the bottle to emphasize freshness. The bottle is labeled with the Kozel branding, featuring a goat mascot and text detailing ‘1874 Lager Premium.’ Next to the upright bottle is another Kozel beer bottle lying on its side, with its yellow cap and label prominently displayed.
To the right of the upright bottle is a tall glass of golden beer, filled to the brim with a thick, creamy foam head, and droplets of condensation running down its surface. Above the glass, beer is being poured from a bottle, captured mid-flow, creating a dynamic and lively effect.
The background is a gradient of black to warm amber tones, which highlights the beer and creates a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The lighting is dramatic, with a soft glow emphasizing the textures of the beer, glass, and wood while maintaining a premium and elegant tone.”
Below, I’ve included three images: two generated with AI based on a detailed brief and one created entirely by me. Looking at them, I’m curious to know which one feels more authentic or closer to a well-crafted visual story. I think your answer could say a lot about how we perceive art in the age of technology. 😊
I wrote this prompt into two platforms (ChatGPT and Gemini Advanced) to generate the image, and the result was surprising. The final image managed to capture the atmosphere I was looking for the rustic elegance of the Kozel brand paired with a freshness that makes you want to grab a beer right then and there.
However, when I looked closer, I realized something was missing. No matter how detailed the result was, it lacked that subtle emotion that only a human vision can add. It’s the difference between an image that’s “correct” and one that truly “feels” the brand.
Beyond the obvious benefits, AI also comes with risks. For example, deepfakes and generated images can create confusion or even harm public trust. Moreover, there’s an important question: who owns the copyright for an AI-generated image? In a world where authenticity is increasingly valued, the risk of audiences perceiving AI-generated content as artificial or lacking in emotion is real.
On the other hand, AI shouldn’t be seen as a replacement but as a tool. It can work wonders in terms of efficiency and versatility, but the final decisions should remain in our hands those of us who understand the nuances of the stories we want to tell.
My conclusion? While the technology is incredibly advanced and useful, the real magic still comes from human vision. These unexpected reactions to my project reminded me of how much people value authenticity.
I’m curious: what’s your take on this topic? Would you consider using AI in your creative projects, or do you prefer to rely solely on personal inspiration?
